Anna Wintour traveled across the pond to London’s Buckingham Palace to receive her DBE, or Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, from Queen Elizabeth II
The British-born, New York-based editor in chief of Vogue and Condé Nast artistic director attended the investiture ceremony along with her daughter Bee Shaffer. She wore a belted pink coat from Chanel with nude Manolo Blahnik Umice heels.Wintour was honored for her services to the fashion and journalism industries; her honor was announced in December as part of the Queen’s annual Birthday Honors List.Born in London, Ms Wintour is the daughter of of Charles Wintour, the famed then-editor of the London Evening Standard, and philanthropist Elinor Wintour.
She said: ‘Obviously this is a city that I grew up in, a city that I have so much affection and love for. It’s always wonderful to get an award but this one is extra special.’ Her journalism career started at Harpers & Queen magazine in 1970. In 1983 she joined Condé Nast as creative director of American Vogue, beginning her relationship with the iconic brand. Ms Wintour returned to London to serve as editor of British Vogue between 1985 and 1987 before rejoining American Vogue in her current position in 1988. In March 2013 Ms. Wintour was named the artistic director of Condé Nast.
